Catherine A Bennett, 71, of Longview, passed away at home on April 25, 2022 after an 18-year battle with lung cancer.
Cathy was a dedicated, focused family-oriented person having spent 36 years volunteering in local schools with her children and grandchildren, 16 years with Girl Scouts and 6 years with Boy Scouts. She loved the outdoors enjoying fishing, hunting, hiking and gardening. She spent many summers of her 71 years at her family ranch in the Sierra Nevada Mountains where she created life long memories with family and friends. In recent years, Cathy spent time on her enclosed porch, surrounded by her flowers, watching the birds and puttering in her garden. She credits her parents and grandparents for giving her an amazing upbringing that resulted in her being the smart, stubborn and compassionate adult she became.
Cathy loved teaching and telling her life stories. If you asked her a question it could take her 2 hours to explain the science behind “why your tummy hurt” or “why your vision is blurry”. Those stories and long explanations will be missed by all.
Cathy was preceded in death by her beloved husband Dick in 2008 and her mother in 2018. She is survived by her siblings - John, Mary Ellen, Margaret, Pattie and Tom as well as her 4 children -Theresa (John), Mary, David (Kris) and RJ (Erin); her 12 grandchildren- Mike (Hayden), Eric, Jessica, Patricia (Jeff), Brooke, Kendal, Dylan, Jordy, Jake, Amanda, Amelia and Denton; her 5 great grandchildren- Aubrey, Xzavier, Makenna, Ember and Addy.
Cathy’s service and burial will be held at Longview Memorial Park on Monday May 2, 2022 starting at 1 p.m. The viewing will be from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. prior to service. A reception will immediately follow at Cathy’s home to share stories and reminisce.
In lieu of flowers, please send a note with your favorite story or memory.
