Danny Jacobs – a man full of love for life, a forever childlike quality, and a desire to help people and his community – passed away due to complications from ALS on October 23, 2021 at the Home Hospice Center in Longview, WA. Survived by his wife, Janet Jacobs, his daughter Carrie Register & husband Ron, brother Dave Jacobs & wife Chris, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Danny was born in Vancouver, WA in 1951 and moved with his family to Kelso, WA. He graduated from Kelso High School in 1969 and met his wife Janet Appleton in that same year. Married to Janet in 1970, they moved their family to Longview in 1976. Danny worked for Standard Oil after he graduated high school, then worked for Weyerhaeuser until 1979 when he had an opportunity to work for the Longview Police Department. Retiring in 2010 as a Captain in the LPD, he was a respected member of the police force for 31 years and was an advocate for community policing, helping to build the satellite office of the Police Department in the Highland area.
Anyone who knew Danny knows he was always a kid at heart, always willing to help others, enjoyed performing as a member of the St. Rose Choir, the Castle Rock Men’s Group, the LCC Choir, and LCC’s Performing Art’s Theater. He led a principled life and always instilled a “Life is full of choices and the results of those choices. Whatever you choose, you must be willing to live with the consequences” to his daughter and to those he encountered as a police officer.
Danny was a pillar of the community, contributing as much as possible with his time and service. He went to El Salvador with the church to serve, as well as volunteered to sing in many services for St. Rose Church. After retirement, Danny spent time volunteering with St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank, was a member of the Board of CASA, and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Danny had many activities that he participated in. If he wasn’t volunteering, you would likely find him out at the Mint Valley Golf Course, regardless of the weather. He loved to travel with his wife Janet. Their most recent trip being to Australia so they could celebrate their 50th Anniversary in 2020, where he checked off some of his bucket list by diving the Great Barrier Reef. He also enjoyed bowling, coaching soccer, running and cycling. He rode the Seattle-to-Portland many times with friends and once with his daughter in 2013.
Preceded in death by his parents Ruth (Essman) and John Jacobs, brother’s John Jacobs, Rick Jacobs, Robert Jacobs, and Gene Jacobs.
