David Charles Seidl

January 29, 1948 — April 20, 2023

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and Marine, David Charles Seidl. He passed away peacefully on April 20th, 2023 at the age of 75, surrounded by his loved ones.

Dave was born on January 29th, 1948 to Roy and Gwen (Elder) Seidl in Longview, Washington. His family moved to Friday Harbor and stayed until Dave was in sixth grade. He then moved back to Longview and this is where Dave spent most of his life. Dave was a proud graduate of Mark Morris High School class of 1967 where he played football, wrestled, and met lifelong friends. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after high school, to serve his country during a tumultuous time in history. Dave served in the Marine Corps with honor from 1967-1971, including as a Corporal in Vietnam for 21 months in 1968-1969. He earned many awards including: a Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Vietnam Service Medals, Rifle Marksman, and a Purple Heart, among others. Dave showed immense courage and dedication to his fellow soldiers and was a proud Marine Corps Veteran.

In Longview, Dave put down roots and married his loving wife, Linda (Gunter) on November 15, 1969. Dave and Linda raised two daughters, Kelly and Jackie (d. 1989) on Germany Creek where they enjoyed a life of hunting, fishing, Jeeping, motorcycle riding, and many other outdoor activities.

Dave valued hard work and was generous to others. He worked as an industrial painter first for Lapray Painting, then for Seidl Painting as he traveled around the Northwest painting bridges, grain silos and water towers. He also painted for Reynolds Metals and the Longview School District, and retired in 2000. After retirement, Dave and Linda went fishing and crabbing as often as they could, Linda usually catching the biggest fish! Linda grew robust gardens and they spent many days canning fruits, vegetables, and smoked fish which they usually gave to friends and family. You felt especially lucky to get a bottle of their homemade wine, though Dave was generous in sharing the fruits of their labor.

Dave’s greatest joys were his grandchildren, Stella and Jack. He made sure they had everything they ever needed or wanted, including a trip to Disneyland, their own four-wheelers, ice cream in the freezer, and hours and hours spent playing games, listening to Stella read, watching shows, teaching Jack to shoot, working on the property, and celebrating all of life together.

Dave is survived by his wife, Linda, daughter, Kelly, sisters Debbie and Becky and a host of extended family and friends who will miss him dearly. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his memory will be cherished forever.
