Judith Wilmington

January 27, 1941 — October 19, 2021

Judith Elizabeth Wilmington, a long-time resident of Lubbock TX, and recent resident of Vancouver WA died peacefully Tuesday, October 19th, 2021, after a valiant fight against Alzheimer’s over the last four years. Judith was born in Denver Colorado on January 27, 1941, to Paul Duvall McCaslin and Winnie Elizabeth Reeves (McCaslin). Judith’s loving childhood was shared with two siblings Catherine (Cathy) Beth Castilian and Thomas (Tom) Paul. Judith was a talented life-long student that met the love of her life Orville Robert Wilmington on an elevator while working at the Denver Post during their high school years. Orville joined the Navy and their romance continued growing, they married on December 13th, 1959. Together they had three energetic boys; two in Denver Colorado, James Allan & Michael Robert, and Robert Paul after arriving in Lubbock TX in 1964. Judith thrived in Lubbock TX running her in-home daycare facility, being actively involved in Agape United Methodist Church, Petal Pushers Garden Club, Red Hat Society, Floral Design Judge, South Plains County Fair, her photography business, and numerous other exciting adventures throughout her life. Judith had a love of nature, plants, art, and people including a special love of sunsets. Judith worked for various companies including Caprock Growers, Texas Instruments, and the research greenhouses at Texas Tech University. Judith carried fond memories of the places and people she worked with throughout her life. While working at Texas Tech University, Judith gained confidence through her friends and family to return to her college endeavors and earned a BS in Horticulture while still being a great wife, mother, and grandmother. It was a difficult path that made the achievement so much more rewarding. Judith felt blessed as the degree gave her the opportunity to meet the students she cared so much about and allowed her to share a passion for the beauty of plants as well as teach the scientific intricacies of God’s creations. Her love of nature allowed her to never miss an opportunity to make a snow angel, relish in a good roll and romp in beautiful fall leaves, or take the time to celebrate the wonderous sunset of the day.

Judith never fully understood she was one of those rare individuals that celebrated the unique talents of every person she met and brought out excitement, energy, sunshine, and celebration to almost any room she entered. She shared her smile, laugh, giggles, dance, and if lucky a poem with all those around her.

Judith is survived by her loving husband Orville: her three children: James and Cheryl Wilmington; Michael, Debbie Wilmington; Robert and Rhonda Wilmington; eleven grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; her brother Thomas and Pamela McCaslin; her nieces and nephews; as well as the vast “adopted family” members she welcomed and embraced throughout her life and from around the world.
